5 Ways Gold Can Make Your Next Project POP!

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Gold can give any project that added touch of both style and charm. Whether it is used as a foil, splash, glitter, or paper—this metallic metal brings any work of art to life by providing that extra little sparkle or shine. If you’re unsure how to incorporate this precious metal into your paper craft designs– here are 5 ways gold can make your next project POP!

Use Watercolor Paper to Paint a Gorgeous Gold Landscape

1st Technique–Take watercolor paper and create a stencil-like impression by using the die as a “mask,” then spray gold splash directly on the die to create that outline look (pictured in the lower left-hand side of the paper). Second Technique–Spray gold splash on to a clear block, dab die onto the splash, then stamp directly on the watercolor paper (pictured in the right-hand side of the paper). Card uses Full Bloom die set from RG Silver & Gold collection.

Make an Inlaid Card with Gold Shadow Accents

Create a shadowed look by using the same die cut on a solid or patterned piece of cardstock along with the metallic gold paper. Offset the gold paper behind the solid/patterned piece of cardstock to create the shadowed scene. Card pictured uses Marigold die set from RG Silver & Gold collection.

Blend Gold and Yellow Colors Together

Add dimension by incorporating solid metallic gold paper and patterned gold paper with a blended mix of yellow inks. Create an ombre’ look by sponging two lighter-yellow inks onto white cardstock Card pictured uses Doily Burst die set and Silver & Gold Printed Paper from RG Silver & Gold collection; Fun Stampers Journey inks, Pineapple Smoothie and Banana Cream, on Whip Cream cardstock.

Add a Tap (or two) of the Gold Silk

Top off any project with that final touch of silk. Be sure to give the bottle a good shake to blend-in all the metallic luster at the bottom before using. After a good shake, hold the brush horizontally with the bristles angled down—use your index finger and tap the handle a few times to flick the splash onto the project. Card features Raw Gold Silk Luster from RG Silver & Gold Collection and The Patriot die set from RG Media Venture Collection.

Make Your Sentiment Stand Out

Really emphasize an inspirational message by giving it some added volume and texture with gold embossing powder. The gold reflects beautifully off the light and brings a little more dimension to the finalized piece. Use the embossing powder to accent a few other embellishments on the card to really make it shine! Card features Be Amazing stamp/die set from RG Make Amazing Happen Collection.
